Easy Sewing Projects Teen & Tween Girls Adore (for them OR you to make!)
I’ve put together this round-up of simple sewing projects in no particular order to get you and your girls inspired.
When you scour the internet, you’ll find millions of sewing projects and patterns. I’ve done my best to find sewing tutorials that have lots of photos and easy-to-follow instructions (this isn’t always the case with everything you come across online 😅).
Encourage your girls to experiment with different fabrics, colours, and designs—who knows, this could be the start of a lifelong passion for sewing!
01. Fabric Cord Holder
Whether laptop cords, mobile phone charging cords, tablet cords, hair dryer cords… these are perfect for keep them organised, especially when the cords are frequently being packed in and out of bags!
There are many versions of cord holders that you can make. Not only are they fun and easy but because they’re small, can be made with scrap fabrics or match with any of the other accessories in the blog post that you can also sew.
Have a look at the fun examples on Crafty for Home.
02. Mobile Phone Pillow Stand
Yes, this looks like a mini bean bag for a cell phone. But how handy it is! Or better said, hands-free!
Lower the chance of dropping that phone while chatting and working, and allow the phone to safely and snugly lay back on this soft pillow.
Again, another simple pattern and perfect for your girls to sew using up leftover fabric pieces!
See the tutorial from Everything’s Famtastic.
03. Tablet Sleeve
Not only mobile phones need taking care of, but also their even more expensive big cousins: tablets.
Whether you’re rocking an iPad or any other brand of tablet, when out and about a padded sleeve cover can prevent screen scratches and other unexpected bumps.

04. Hair Towel Wrap
You might have seen this called a towel wrap, hair wrap, hair turban, twist turban or any other number of names. But they’re all the same thing and mega easy to sew! Bonus points if you upcycle an old towel too! 💪
This project is super budget-friendly and easy enough to get finished in well under an hour, even for sewing beginners!

05. Scrunchies
For anyone with long hair, sometimes you just want something colourful or unique to put in your hair. And what better than a handmade scrunchie, which you can even match with your other accessories?
Cute fabric, a hair elastic and a few minutes is all you need for your girls to sew this pattern!
See how easy it is these examples from One Little Project.
06. Funky Reading Bone Pillow
Not your average reading pillow! You’ve surely heard of reading pillows before, but this one does not have a pocket for stashing a book.
This one is oddly-shaped but perfect in so many ways: for lying on, supporting your neck, resting a book against for hands-free reading and more.

07. Fabric Storage Basket
Who doesn’t have bit and pieces in their bedroom that need organising and storing properly? (Yes! My own dear children… I’m looking at you 🤨)
Sewing a cute fabric box is a(nother) great way to use up fabric scraps and coordinate décor accessories in your room. And of course, sewing such cute storage baskets in a variety of shapes and sizes means you can store whatever you want, wherever you want!
See how you can sew one in any size you choose at Everything’s Famtastic.
08. Simple Zipper Pouch
Such a simple, lined fabric pouch seems too good to be true! But seriously, even for those scared of making anything with a zipper, you’ll discover how easy such sweet fabric pouches are to sew.
They don’t need much time or fabric to make them, and I dare you to stop sewing after just one! Make one for your BFF too 🥰.
Sew a zipper pouch like these ones from Melly Sews.
09. Box Zippered Pouch
I know I just talked about zipper pouches, but these ones are totally different, I swear! And they’re always good for organizing makeup, accessories, tech gadgets and more.
Boxy pouches are more 3D than the simple zippered pouches and require a bit more sewing, but with a good tutorial they’re also quick to make.

10. Tote bag
Another straight lines sewing project perfect for anyone to make! Such cute bags are the must-bring accessory for trips to the store, the library, to a friends’ place or anytime there’s something that you just can’t bear to leave behind. 😅
A lined bag is even better, because all the fabric raw edges are hidden away. And what about a bag that is reversible?!?

11. Key Chain Fob
Ever rummaged around in the bottom of your bag searching for keys? Or worse, lost your housekey because it was on some small ring “temporarily until I find a keyring I like”?!? Time to make your own!
Quick to sew and fun to customize with different fabrics, keychain fobs are practical and stylish. And in your favourite colour, it’ll be simple to spot in the bottom of your bag

12. Basic Envelope Cushion Cover
Once again, straight sewing projects like cushion covers are a sure winner! Try adding a splash of colour to your room with a simple throw pillow cover in one of a million individual styles.
Try creating custom pillowcases with fun prints or appliqued initials to make them truly unique! The more the merrier cosier.

13. Kitchen Apron
OK, it doesn’t have to only be for the kitchen, although baking sweet treats can be as much fun as sewing! Simple aprons can be made for cooking, crafting, or gardening, and personalized with fun prints or with pockets for tools or treats.
There are so many style options for aprons such as waist aprons, cross-back aprons and more.
A great one to get started is this tutorial from The Sewing Directory.
14. Pyjama Pants
There are loads of tutorials online about sewing pyjama pants and it’s easy to see why. Funky fabrics, relaxed (and forgiving 😅) sizing, fun to wear on lazy days… They’re not about to be worn to the grand ball, right?!?
Everyone needs pajama pants, so why not try sewing a pair (or more!) at home? Find a pattern you love or just use an existing pair of pants as your template!
The pajama pants video tutorial from Made Everyday with Dana will show you how.
15- Bean Bags
Need an easy sewing project to fill in a few minutes or use up small pieces of fabric scraps? Then these bean bags are just what you need without an extra trip to the fabric store.
Quick to sew, small bean (or rice) bags are great to use for games, as stress relievers, or even with some dried lavender, as small fragrance bags for your room.
Use this tutorial to get you started at Everything’s Famtastic.
16. Stuffed Toys
Whether using felt, fabric scraps or even old clothing, simple patterns for small stuffed animals like bears, cats, or bunnies are great projects for learning basic sewing techniques.
The sky’s the limit when it comes to cute, plush stuffed animal sewing patterns to make. The only decisions you need to make is which animal to sew first and how complicated or basic do you want to make it?
This reversible octopus sewing tutorial caught my eye, from 5 Out Of 4.
