Have you heard the story about the girl who moved from big city Australia to small town Germany? No?!? Neither had anyone in the whole history of mankind.
Well, OK, perhaps I exaggerate a little…
Hi there! I’m Jenny, an Aussie girl relocated from Sydney (yes, Sydney!) to Smallville Germany (and regularly asked “Why?!?”), trying to negotiate life in this foreign land. I live a bilingual life with my fantastically supportive husband and 3 amazing kids (14, 11 & 8 years old). And I don’t dare to forget about our pet rabbit!
I love (in no particular order): chocolate, sewing, photography, baking, reading, dancing around my kitchen, hearing my children laughing themselves crazy, sunshine and travel. (Did you notice how chocolate just happened to be first on the list?! 😉). I also love learning new things, be it foreign languages, sewing zippers into kids’ clothes, how to start a blog or how to steer a plane (yes, I actually did this)!
I probably imagined that my training as a psychologist may have helped me to cope with raising 3 children, but I quickly became aware that I was clearly kidding myself. My German language skills, although very good, are often called into question by those same dear children. (But by trying to teach myself Dutch, maybe I can stay one step ahead of them afterall 😉).
Although moving overseas to a new location often sounds wildly glamourous, it can also be really tough. Combine that with being a mother whose children seem to know everything about how this country operates when I apparently do not, and you have one lady here on a continuous (often bumpy) learning curve.
I hope that my blog Everything’s Famtastic makes you smile at some of the craziness, gives you some tips how to manage your own craziness, makes you nod knowingly in agreement at some of the situations I find myself in, uplifts you and makes you feel less alone in rough times, and inspires you to try new things too.
