Last week I was feeling fired up and feisty, what with all those totally powerful inspirational quotes! “Go get ‘em!” was the message I was pumping myself up with and bringing you along for the ride too 😉. What?!? You didn’t see it? If you feel like you need a bit of motivating to pursue your goals, then be sure to check it out here because it will really give you the kick up the butt you’re after!
And what now?
Well, It’s official. The
cold weather here in Germany has continued it’s march towards winter. So while I may be energised and motivated, I
am also damn cold!!! The days are getting shorter and shorter, so much so that
the kids are walking to school by the light of the moon. And a flashlight. 😉 For the sunshine-y Australian girl in
me lousy, grey, cold weather = time to hibernate time to find fun
projects I can accomplish indoors.
If you’re into sewing like me, but also trying hard to not waste too many materials while you’re at it (Hello! #reducereuserecycle), you’ve probably got a stack of odd-shaped, leftover pieces of fabric hoarded away “for later”.
Do I have the PERFECT sewing project for you!!! (And I’m gonna show you how to do it!)
*** drumroll please… ***
A Patchwork Infinity Loop Scarf!!!
What is an Infinity Loop Scarf?
People wear scarves all year round for warmth and for fashion. Everybody knows a regular scarf is a simple (usually) rectangle-shaped piece of fabric which can be draped or knotted in a variety of ways.
An Infinity Scarf however, is not a flat piece of fabric, rather an enclosed large loop of fabric which can also be knotted in variety of ways (depending on how cold and/or daring you’re feeling 😉).
Can I sew an Infinity Scarf too?
This sewing project is for ANYBODY who loves to sew. Yes, even for beginners. Lots of opportunities to practice sewing straight lines here!
You may start off wondering how you’re going to turn this…
into an Infinity Scarf.
But trust me, it will work! Just follow the instructions 😊.
Why Sew a Patchwork Infinity Scarf?
Oh! Where to start?!?
>> Sewing is more fun that buying an overpriced one from the store.
>> An Infinity Loop Scarf is not a “normal” scarf, and therefore makes more of a fashion statement.
>> When you have one around your neck in cold weather it is oh-so-snuggly.
>> Making a Patchwork Scarf is the PERFECT way to recycle / upcycle any stretch fabrics you have lying around. Less wastage + More items of clothing = Win! (Both for your wallet and for the environment).
>> You can use pieces of fabric leftover from other items you have sewn, therefore creating a piece of clothing that accessorises well with other clothes in the wardrobe.
>> Have you seen one of those really pretty YouTube videos, with like, 25 ways to tie a scarf? An Infinity Scarf is so easy to wear! No complicated knots you need a PhD to sort out
>> It is such a simple project, that anyone from beginners to experts can sew. For beginners, it is a very forgiving sewing project (Those straight lines not perfectly straight? Stitching didn’t turn out quite how you imagined it? Never mind! It all gets turned inside out and you never have to look at those imperfections ever again!)
>> You can make your scarf any length and for anybody! For a small child, make it shorter. For an adult, just add some length. So easy!
>> This piece is beautiful and unique. Just like you 😉. NOBODY will ever have a scarf quite like yours!
The instructions I am sharing with you make a scarf approximately 120 cm (47 in.) long. This is the perfect size for both my 5 and 8 year old children. For my 11 year old daughter I just added an extra 2 pieces.
The steps needed to make an adult-sized one are identical, only you’ll want to alter the size. I’ve read advice recommending that the length of the Infinity Scarf should match the person’s height (eg if you are making a scarf for someone 160cm tall, then the length of fabric should also be 160cm). Instead, I say just add in some length piece by piece using these instructions as a guideline until you are happy with the size 😉.

This is so cute! I just pinned it to come back to when I am ready but I am totally doing this!
Oh Thanks! Be sure to show off the scarf when you’re done! 😉
I love this idea, so cute! I am not good at sewing, but I feel like I might actually be able to give it a try because you explained it so well. Thanks for sharing!
My pleasure! I hope if you ever find yourself with some small amounts of fabrics you might dare yourself to give it a go 😉
Beautiful and pretty creative. I have clothes packed in boxes that I haven used in a while. I’m going to put them to good use.
There are so many things you can turn old clothes into. This scarf is just one idea! Have fun getting creative!
I am so going to try this! I am a beginning sewer but I think my boys would love to help me make one of these!
Getting kids involved too is so much fun. They can help “design” their scarves 🙂 Have fun!
I agree with you on this. It is better to sew than to buy an overpriced piece. Plus you get to choose your style and design. Lovely infinity loop scarf.
Hey, thanks! That#s what I love about sewing. Nobody will ever have the exact same piece as I’ve made 😉
This is so cute! I definitely need to learn to sew
Thanks! This is pretty easy. Lots of straight lines for beginners 😉
I love how you’re so precise in the instructions as well. This is definitely a project I am going to have to try. Great post thank you for sharing and adding in the printable instructions! I love infinity scarfs, I can’t wait to try this.
