Reasons why you should sew things for your home
Sewing things for your home can be immensely rewarding (and useful!) for SO MANY reasons! Here are just some reasons you’ll want to start creating:
Personalised look
When you sew items for your home, you have complete control over the size, quantity, fabric, design and colour choices. This allows you to create decor and furnishings that perfectly match your needs as well as your personal style and preferences.
Unique decor
Handmade items add a unique and personal touch to your home decor. You can create one-of-a-kind pieces that stand out and reflect your individual creativity. I get a little kick out of knowing that nobody else on the planet has the exact same thing that I have sewn myself!
Skill development
Sewing provides valuable skills that can be learned and improved upon over time. It can be a satisfying and creative hobby that offers never-ending opportunities for growth and creative expression.
Upcycling and Recycling
Sewing allows you to repurpose old textiles, clothing items and fabric scraps, reducing waste and giving new life to materials that might otherwise be tossed in the trash.
Gift-giving
I love making beautiful items to share with others, don’t you? Handmade home items make thoughtful and personalized gifts for friends and family on various occasions, from housewarmings to weddings.

How to sew an egg warmer basket
Who doesn’t enjoy a boiled goog for Sunday breakfast? What?!? You’ve never heard the word “goog” before?!? Must be an Australian thing… 😅

Cheap and easy way to make a kids’ pillow bed
I’ve seen a few variations of these type of pillow beds and it’s easy to see why they’re so popular to make; kids love to flop on the floor to read, chat or watch TV and these pillow beds are brilliant for those occasions (frequently in the living room! 😅)
I liked this version of a pillow bed because instead of buying a few pillow cases (which can get expensive) and sewing them all together, you can simply use a bedsheet and sew a few straight seams in pillow-sized sections!
