Best Summer Fun Ideas to Entertain School Kids

01. Have a crazy hair day. Try out wild hairstyles, coloured hairsprays or even temporary daring colouring.

02. Go fruit picking and then make all sorts of tasty homemade treats. Try jams, ice cream, muffins (and maybe even some liqueur for the grown-ups 😉).

03. Convert your living room into a cozy mattress and blankets landscape and have a home movie night.

04. Have a technology-free day. That means, no mobile phones, no game consoles, no tablet… See what creative ideas you all come up with to engage in non-screen fun!

05. Try tie-dying shirts. Start off with a plain (white is best) shirt and favourite-coloured fabric dyes. Take a look around Pinterest at the gazillions of dazzling ideas for patterns and get started!

06. Get the kids to choose a pattern for a new piece of clothing you can sew. Go shopping together for them to help choose the fabrics.

07. Even better, have your kids help with the sewing process too. There are many steps involved in sewing and most ages will find task they can do, from passing you the fabric pieces and pins to actually sewing the item themselves.

08. Re-arrange the kids’ bedrooms. Moving the bedroom around into a different layout can give the bedroom a whole new feeling.

09. Have a super splashing water fight. Load up the water bombs, water pistols and sponges. Ready, set, get wet!

10. Camp in your backyard. Set up the tent, grab torches, sleeping bags and other gear and spend the night under the stars.

11. Study the night sky. Perfect for when camping, lie back and wonder at all the stars in the night sky. Have a competition to see who can spot planets and constellations. Keep an eye out for shooting stars too!

12. Paint small stones with cute pictures or sayings and sneakily leave them to be found around your town. They are guaranteed to put a smile on someone’s face!

13. Host your own stand-up comedy night. Everyone takes turns getting the “crowd” to laugh themselves silly. If you’re looking for some jokes to get started, take a look at these mega funny kid-friendly jokes.

15. Set up a “help yourself” plant stall. Repot cuttings or seedlings into small plant pots you have lying around and leave them out the front of your house with a sign inviting passers-by to take one for their own home.

16. Go geo-caching. Take a look online to find geo-cache treasures hidden nearby, grab a GPS gadget (or phone) and off you go.

17. Conduct a neighbourhood clean-up. Team up with some friends and neighbours, take some heavy-duty garbage bags and sturdy garden gloves and help make your neighbourhood trash-free. Don’t forget good walking shoes and a bottle of water to drink! The environment (and your conscience) will love you for it. 🥰

18. Bake your favourite basic cookie recipe and then have the kids get creative decorating them with a variety of coloured icing and sprinkles. The more colourful the better!

20. Learn how to juggle. Try using these homemade bean bags which are perfect for indoors or outdoors. Practice with one, then 2 bean bags. Can you juggle 3? Or more?

21. Turn your windows into colourful works of art with window chalk markers. Let everyone’s imagination run free. (These special markers then easily wash off your windows later 😉.)
