5 Fabulously Fun Ways to Test Your General Knowledge

In this week’s post I am going for something completely different. Not sewing-related, although I am working on a post with simple instructions to sew your own mouth & nose mask. Not how best to learn a new hobby in 5 days (who needs that pressure ?!?). Not even keeping the kids entertained if they’re home from school. (If you want some suggestions for that, you’ll need to read here.)

This is just for you. This one is for the grown-ups. 😊

No, not because it is X-rated! It’s because it’s time for sharing some simple, guilty pleasures for parents who may be struggling with the chance to win a little “me time” lately. Let’s see a raise of hands: Who couldn’t use a little more time to laugh and chill out these days?

Given the circumstances worldwide at the moment, all things online are getting a real workout! I know that sometimes within my own house my laptop’s internet connection drops out and I need to wander around the house to see just how many other family members are sucking the connection dry 😉. For so many of us, it is our only connection to the wider world: to friends and family, to entertainment and learning options, to culture and sport and much more.

So, in the name of “me time” and/or zoning-out-time-wasting I have searched the internet and found you a sample of some fun, free quizzes to give you a laugh. Some of these quizzes will even give those grey cells a workout in these unusual times.

Are you curious? Are you ready for a little fun? Count me in!

You might have seen on social media or elsewhere online some of those nonsensical quizzes, with titles like “Which Disney Princess are you?” and “Which Game of Thrones character are you?”. Or maybe even quizzes using statistics to prove how reliable they are (*wink wink*) with titles like “87% of toddlers can understand Einstein’s Theory of Relativity. Can you?”.

OK, just kidding! That last one was a joke! But you know what I mean, right?!?

So, here are a bunch of other online quizzes or Apps that will keep you entertained or challenged (choose your quiz wisely!) for those times you are looking to take a well-earned “me time” break.

Available in multiple languages, QuizDuel asks a series of questions in various categories to test out your general knowledge. And not questions like how many times has Britney Spears been married (P.S. Twice) 😉. This free App lets you challenge friends to 6 rounds of 3 questions across topics like food & drink, environment, history, science and more. There are also quizzes available where you can test your knowledge against the general population. It’s fun, doesn’t take a lot of time (if you don’t want it to) and you might actually learn something new along the way! Warning: can unleash competitive tendencies 😉.

The Pop Culture Quiz

Spectacular Quarantine Quizzes

Via the website Spectacular Pub Quizzes you can sign up for live quizzes each day, testing out whether you are a football fiend, a Marvel Comics mastermind or a Harry Potter prodigy or any other number of popular entertainment topics. You get to play alone or in teams and interact with the quizmaster too! They do request a donation to play, but it is not compulsory. For those in the know this is sure to be a fun night in!

Brainfall

The Brainfall website is a bit of a mixed bag but provides endless entertainment. Want a quiz about the movie “Grease”? They’ve got it. Think you know hospital terminology? Got it! Want to test which extinct animal you are? Well, they’ve got that too. Everything from music, sports, movies, TV and more, you could totally get lost inside this website and quiz yourself crazy!

Sporcle

Another pop culture site, Sporcle offers quizzes in all shapes and forms and you are guaranteed to find some fun ones to suit. The menus are really clear to navigate so that you can choose a topic (sport, history, music, geography and a dozen more) or search by how long what you want to play. You can even create your own quiz to submit to the site! Again, this is a quiz site you can lose yourself in while testing your knowledge about flags or having fun identifying the mystery celebrity in those sunglasses. And yes, there is even a children’s quiz section 😉.

The Just for Fun Quiz

AKA, the Ultimate Time Waster Quiz Category.

BuzzFeed

Pretty much the entire BuzzFeed quiz page is filled with ridiculous clickbait quizzes. And apparently we LOVE them! Don’t believe me? Check out the website yourself or scroll through your social media feed and see how many of your friends are sharing quizzes like what your choice of dessert suggests about which TV shows you should be watching. Or which beautiful images appeal to you and they’ll tell you which movie to watch on Netflix tonight.

Basically, if bizarre quizzes that make no sense but are totally hilarious, then BuzzFeed is the place for you!. No judgement here! There are some totally random general knowledge quizzes too, but if you’re looking to give your brain a workout in these seriously strange times, you’re probably better off looking at other options 😉.

Basically, whatever your mood, you can find countless online or downloadable, free quizzes to occupy your time. Silly, crazy, nonsense, entertaining, enlightening… any and all are free and available for the taking.

If you want to use your quarantine time to learn a new language or build the next passenger ship to outer space, kudos to you! If you are using quarantine to reconnect with yourself and family and don’t want to deal with the pressure of “should” and “must”, then choosing an online quiz (or 2. Or 3. Or…) might be just the thing you are looking for today!

No matter what you choose to do with your time today, stay healthy and take care of your loved ones. And YOURSELF too 😊.
